The Turkish Angora +ACY-nbsp;Cat
At the end of the 16th century the Angora cat arrived in France with the scientist Claude Fabri de Peirese.+ACY-nbsp; The Lovely cat originated in the Turkish city of Angora or better known as Ankara.+ACY-nbsp; It is admired for its long silky coat and quiet, graceful charm.+ACY-nbsp; The Angora's body was long, slender and of oriental type.+ACY-nbsp; An English writer in 1868 describes the Angora as a "beautiful variety with silvery hair of fine texture, generally longest on the neck, but also on the tail".+ACY-nbsp; The white variety of the Angora Cat was often felt to be the only true representative of this breed and the Ankara Zoo established a breeding program of whites.

The Angora is the British equivalent of the Oriental Longhair. In addition to all of the usual Oriental Shorthair colors and patterns, the British standard also allows green-eyed and odd-eyed whites. The Turkish Angora Cats have no undercoat and its coat is fine and silky. The length of the coat is medium and wavy on the underside. They have almond shaped eyes that are large and slant upwards slightly. The preferred eye color is amber and may have flecks of green. The White cats can have blue or odd-eyed (one of each) colors and the Silver Tabbies are required to have green. The Turkish Angora Cats have a firm chin that is rounded with a slim neck. The nose has no break and is medium long. sometimes having a gently slope. The ears are wide. tall. erect. and set high. The body is medium to small with a long torso. The tail is usually long and wide and is carried lower than the body.
Turkish Angora Cat picture "The Angora cat currently has a small population base, because the breed is still in development. They have the body type and nature of an Oriental cat - lean, sleek, intelligent and inquisitive - and a silky medium-length coat which is much longer and thicker than that of a traditional oriental cat or Siamese."

The body of the Angora should be medium size, but the fine structure of the bones, its balance, slender and graceful appearance are more important than the cats size.+ACY-nbsp; Male cats can larger than female cats. The legs should be long with hinds longer than front. Paws should be small, round with tufts between the toes.+ACY-nbsp; The tail should be long with a full brush.. The cat+ACY-nbsp; has a single coat and the length of body coat varies.+ACY-nbsp; The tail and the ruff should be long, textured and have a silky sheen. The Ears should be large and wide at the base and should be pointed and tuffed, closely together vertical and erect and high on the cats head.

The Colors:+ACY-nbsp; white , black, blue, cream, red, blue smoke, black smoke, tabby pattern, mackerel tabby pattern, silver tabby, red tabby, brown tabby, blue tabby, cream tabby, tortoiseshell, calico, dilute calico, blue-cream, bicolor, other Turkish angora colors. In Turkey the Angora is called different names depending on the color. A red tabby is named sarman. The silver tabby is called teku. The oddeyed white is known as Ankara kedi.

Turkish Angora cats are also very fond of high places, such as the tops of doors and bookshelves. Owners of Turkish Angora cats should be careful to avoid letting electrical wires dangle out in the open. The Angora will chew them with their exceptionally sharp teeth. Turkish Angoras are also known to run the household by supervising every activity of their owner, and are the only breed of cat known to have a sense of humor.

Prices for Turkish Angora pet quality kittens range from +ACQ-400 to +ACQ-500, with color, hearing quality, and show status of the parents a consideration.+ACY-nbsp; Blue-eyed hearing whites are extremely rare and command a higher price.

High biological value protein and fat are essential as is a good daily hair supplement. Vegetable enzymes will ensure a good coat and help break down hair balls as they form. In any event give a hair ball treatment two or three times a week between meals. Avoid giving your cat foods with dyes in them. Thesecan dis-color your Turkish Angora's coat.
